How do I get to Mongolia?
All direct flights come into Ulaanbaatar – most of them from Beijing, Moscow, Seoul, Tokyo or Berlin. The Trans-Mongolian train from Moscow or Beijing makes a particularly exhilarating entry into the country. There are domestic flights and trains from Ulaanbaatar to the rest of Mongolia. Many of the tours use a 4WD Japanese and Korean vehicle to transport you to your destination.
What is the accommodation like?
If you are staying in Ulaanbaatar, you will be in your selected accommodation. During any trips around the country, you will be staying in Tourist Ger camp
What is tourist ger camp? Can I plug my hair dryer or electric razor in my ger?
The tourist camps use traditional Ger (national dwelling of Mongolia) for accommodation and these sleep 2-4 people. The Ger camps also have a separate washing block that contains western style flushing toilets in cubicles and shower cubicles. There are also laundry, eating and shopping facilities and you can charge up camera batteries and plug other electric items in the camps also. Electrical socket: 2 round prongs, 220 volts, 50 Hz
How is the food?
In Ulaanbaatar, you will be dining at fine European and Asian cuisine restaurants. Mutton, beef, rice and noodles form the basis of the Mongolian diet, so your meals will be based around this. However, the trail rations may include vegetables, eggs, peanut butter, cheese and sometimes yak! On some days there will be lunchboxes from tourist camps as there are no camps or eating places on the journey. It is good food and our experience has been that guests are happy with this arrangement. Please let us know in advance if you are a vegetarian. Alcohol is not provided on the trip but tourists are free to bring their own.
What conditions are the roads in?
Mongolia is a large and untouched country and many of the roads you will be traveling on are not paved. The journeys will often be real wild exploring adventures through vast natural landscape.
How about transports?
We use the highest level, latest model, air-conditioned private minivans for smaller group and BUS for bigger group. A day's drive in the countryside will be approx 60-110 km and it takes 2-3 hours.
